The New Deal
After the great depression hit hard President Hoover tried to find ways to solve it. Being unsuccessful people were eager for a new president. FDR was soon elected and immediately took action using what he called "The New Deal". The New Deal was the governments response to the economic crisis. The plan had a couple main points. The first thing that FDR did was he closed all banks for a couple days and then reopened them under a new act that held the banks under close supervision. One of the things he changed about the banks was that they could no longer give the loans, they also made it possible for federal personal loans. Then there were acts that created more jobs. There was the CCC, Civillian Civilization Corp, that helped perserve natural resources. CWA, Civic Works Administration provided 4 million jobs with construction. Acts were made to help with agricultural needs. The AAA, Agricultural Adjustment Act, paid farmers not to produce as much food. This act helped bring up the price of food. Those are only a few examples of what the acts were. Over the years since the great depression there have been many debates on how effective the "New Deal" actually was. But altogether it is safe to say that it was successful in bringing our country out of the economic failure we were facing.
